UPDATE - FEBRUARY 21, 2023

EAST WASHINGTON STREET BRIDGE REPLACEMENT. TRAFFIC CHANGE STARTING FEBRUARY 22, 2023.
 
The Suffolk Department of Public Works advises the contractor will be closing the westbound lane as they begin construction on February 22, 2023.  The eastbound lane will reopen and will be controlled by traffic signals at both ends.  The bridge is located in the 2300 block of East Washington Street. 

 

Oversized loads are prohibited from travelling through the work zone. Any vehicle wider than 8’ 6” is considered oversized.

 

This project is expected to be complete in the summer.

The City of Suffolk is planning for a replacement of the existing superstructure of East Washington Street (RTE. 337) Bridge over Jericho Canal. The superstructure will be replaced with prestressed concrete voided slabs utilizing the existing concrete superstructure. The cracked, delaminated, and spalled areas in the abutments and wingwalls will be repaired.
