What We Do

Integrated Mosquito Management

A philosophy that employs several tools to manage, reduce, and eradicate the mosquito population. In order to accomplish these goals we must understand the mosquitoes that we are targeting. We place a lot of emphasis on mosquito surveillance through adult trapping and samples of mosquito larvae that are taken from the field. The data we gather from our surveillance identifies mosquito species in areas, the quantity of the mosquito population, and any disease positive mosquitoes that are present.  This information helps us target locations that need attention due to increased mosquito activity and detection of West Nile Virus (WNV) and Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) positive mosquitoes. Mosquito abatement operations use biorational methods and mosquitocides in the form of adulticides, larvicides, and pupacides to eradicate mosquito populations to reduced levels in order to manage their growth.
