The Investigations Command consists of Criminal Investigations, Special Investigations, the two Neighborhood Enforcement Teams, Forensics, and Criminal Intelligence and Analysis. The main focus of the Investigations Division is to investigate reported criminal activity in the City of Suffolk. This activity includes crimes against persons, crimes against property, vice and narcotics related crimes, and gang related crimes.
About Major Chandler
Major Al Chandler joined the Suffolk Police Department in April of 1999. Major Chandler has held various positions within the department to include field training officer, crime scene technician, detective and SWAT team member. As a sergeant, he served as supervisor in Uniform Patrol and in the Criminal Investigations Division as the Property Crimes Detective Supervisor, and the Violent Crimes Detective Supervisor.
As a Lieutenant, Chandler served the department as the commander of the Special Operations Unit where he managed a number of units such as the Fatal Crash Reconstruction Team, Hostage Negotiations Team, Marine Patrol, School Resource Officer Unit, and Search and Rescue Team. During his career, Major Chandler has attended many schools and received numerous certifications. Major Chandler is a 2006 graduate of the West Point Leadership Course and a 2014 Graduate of Saint Leo University's Master of Science in Criminal Justice program. Major Chandler graduated from the 270th Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA.
