Driver's License Ceremony

The Department of Motor Vehicles has sent your Driver's License to Juvenile and Domestic Relations (JDR) Court for presentation to you as required by law.

About the Ceremony


You are scheduled to appear with a parent or guardian in the General District Court courtroom to receive your Driver's License on the date indicated on your card no later than 3:30 p.m. You will not be granted access to Courtroom after 3:30 p.m. If you will be 18 or older on the date shown on this Notice, your parent or guardian is not required to attend.
2 Driver's Licenses
Persons who arrive late and/or are inappropriately dressed will not be admitted, but given a new date to appear. Contact the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Clerks Office 757-514-7768 for a new date to appear.

At the conclusion of the drivers license session the Deputy will collect both your Driver Education Certificate or 90 day Temporary Driver's License and your learner's permit. Key chains or small carry bags promoting the State Police HEAT program will be issued as a complementary gift from the Sheriff's Office.

What to Bring to the Ceremony


Please bring both your Driver Education Certificate or 90 Day Temporary Driver's License and your learner's permit for collection by the court.

Dress Code


This is a courtroom proceeding and each Licensee and Parent must be appropriately dressed.

Days of Ceremonies


Driver's licenses are issued in this matter on the first Thursday of each Month. There are usually about 50 to 60 issued and only 1 Parent or Guardian is required to be present.
