The project provides for the widening of Nansemond Parkway from an existing two lane undivided roadway to a four lane divided roadway extending from Helen Street (phase I limit) to the Chesapeake city line. The project includes extension of a 10 foot wide multi-use path on the north side of the corridor and a 5 foot wide sidewalk on the south side. The project also provides for improved storm drain facilities to include water quality features as well as street lighting and landscaping. This project is being constructed in coordination with the City of Chesapeake's Portsmouth Boulevard widening project which will continue the four lane divided roadway features to Starmount Parkway in Chesapeake. All Right of Way acquisition has been completed. Construction started in early 2017 and anticipated to last approximately 18 months.
