Special Events

Our Special Events Team is committed to provided entertainment and fun for the whole family throughout the course of the year.  You wouldn't believe all of the fun that we have here in Suffolk.  Our family friendly events provide recreation for the entire family regardless of community or lifestyle. 

Active Adult Events

Our Active Adults ages 55 and over have a specialized program that allows recreation and fun weekly. Each quarter, the Special Events Department will provide such events as our Sweetheart Ball, Summer Fun Festival and the Holiday Gala.  

Eggstravaganza

Join Suffolk Parks & Recreation for our Annual Spring Eggstravaganza. This event will have your kids hopping for joy at Bennett’s Creek Park from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Our event, filled with games, pony rides, crafts, music and more, is geared towards families with children 10 years old and under. Kids can decorate bags to stash the eggs they collect throughout the scavenger hunt. Peter Cottontail will arrive to this egg-citing event at 11:15 a.m. and will be available all morning to meet with the children. Bring your camera to capture a day full of memories!

The Eggstravaganza is free event and open to the public. Food and vendor items will be available for purchase in the park. Bennett’s Creek Park is located at 3000 Bennett’s Creek Park Road. 

Drive In Movie

Twice a year, a drive in movie is conducted on the lawn of our beautiful Bennett's Creek Park at 3000 Bennett's Creek Park Road.  This event is usually held in May and October.  Bennett’s Creek Park will transform into a Drive-In Movie Theater with two screens. Stay comfy in your car or bring your lawn chairs and blankets and get the best seat in the park.  Two full concession areas are available with food and treats with no outside food or drink allowed.  Pets are welcome on a leash when outside of your vehicle. The event is always free and open to the public.    

TGIF Summer Concert Series

Each Summer, a Summer Concert Series is held at Constant's Wharf Park and Marina and at Bennett's Creek Park.  Local bans are invited to help you dance the night away.  There are vendors, merchants and children's activities. Usually the Concert Series kicks off at Constant's Wharf Park and Marina in June and continue through August of each year.  There are four concerts held at Constant's Wharf Park and Marina and four at Bennett's Creek Park.

Stars and Stripes Spectacular

Enjoy the Stars and Stripes Spectacular on July 4th as the skies of Suffolk light up with a fireworks show over the beautiful Nansemond River at Constant’s Wharf Park and Marina. The park will open at 5:30 p.m. with entertainment, children’s activities, merchandise vendors and a variety of food choices. A large area with bounce houses and games will be available for children 12 and under for a $5.00 entry fee. A LIVE band will take the stage at 6:00 p.m. with a repertoire of songs in a variety of styles. An evening with this band could range in a musical variety from soft dinner music to Motown, Beach Music, Disco and all of your favorite music. The fireworks show will begin at 9:00 p.m. for the entire family to enjoy.

There is no onsite parking for this event. Shuttle parking will begin at 5:15 p.m. from the following sites:

• First Baptist Church located at 237 N Main Street

• Suffolk Municipal Building parking lot located at 440 Market Street

• Mills Godwin Courthouse Building located at 150 N Main St

The last shuttle run before the fireworks begin is at 8:20 pm. Shuttles will resume after the fireworks have concluded. 

Taste of Suffolk

Want to find great food, fabulous entertainment, and plenty of children’s activities all within walking distance of each other? Take a bite out of the annual Taste of Suffolk street festival.  It is usually held on the second Saturday in September from 1100am-6pm.  If you are r having attracted residents, as well as visitors, from all over Hampton Roads. The event site will stretch down Main Street starting on Finney Ave and cover Washington Street from Commerce to Saratoga Street. Main Street will be lined with restaurants from all over Suffolk presenting some of their specialty food items, merchandise vendors displaying a variety of goods and services, a New Car show with local Suffolk dealerships, all day entertainment with live music and contests that are sure to get everyone on their feet. 

Grand Illumination

The Suffolk Holiday Season begins with a hometown kickoff. The Grand Illumination Ceremony at Market Park in downtown Suffolk will ring in the holidays for families in our community with the park opening at 6 p.m.

Watch the 32 foot tree light up when the switch is flipped to illuminate Suffolk for the season. Be there as Santa arrives in style, enjoy seasonal music, take a tour of the Suffolk Seaboard Railroad Museum and purchase your own horse-drawn carriage ride. Youngsters will also be able to participate in various holiday themed craft activities in specially-heated tents. Be sure to bring along your camera to capture your children’s smiling faces as they whisper their Christmas wishes to Santa Claus.

Holiday Parade

Join in the lights and sounds of the 2016 Suffolk Holiday Parade on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at 7p.m. Find the best spot to watch the floats, equestrian units, marching bands and festive vehicles stroll down West Washington Street and take a turn up North Main Street with the parade route ending at Finney Avenue. This year’s parade theme is Jingle Bell Rock.

This year’s Grandstand will be in front of the Suntrust Building in the 100 block of North Main Street. Be there to catch the performances of the local bands and performance groups.

Free parking for the event is available in all City public lots including the Godwin Courthouse parking lot, Saratoga Street lot, Commerce Street Lot and Market Park parking lot.
