Our Special Events Team is committed to provided entertainment and fun for the whole family throughout the course of the year.  You wouldn't believe all of the fun that we have here in Suffolk.  Our family friendly events provide recreation for the entire family regardless of community or lifestyle.

Carpool Cinema - May 8, 2021

Join Suffolk Parks & Recreation for a Carpool Cinema featuring Shrek (2001).  This event will be held at Bennett’s Creek Park, located at 3000 Bennetts Creek Park Road, on Saturday, May 8th, from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. for a fun family outing!  

This event is FREE and open to the public. Pre-registration is required by car. All passengers must be legally seated in the vehicle.

The movie, Shrek (2001), will begin at approximately 8:15 p.m. Food vendors will be available on-site for dinner, popcorn and funnel cakes!

View the movie safely from the comfort of your car after picking up dinner from one of our vendors. Proper social distancing will be required, and a mask must be worn while outside of your vehicle. Twice a year, a movie is conducted on the lawn of our beautiful Bennett’s Creek Park at 3000 Bennett’s Creek Park Road.  This event is usually held in May and October. Bennett’s Creek Park will transform into a Drive-In Movie Theater. Stay safe & comfy in your car. Arrive early to get the best seat in the park!  A concessions areas will be available with food and treats. Pets are welcomed on a leash. The movie will begin at approximately 8:15 PM. Registration is required. 

TGIF Summer Concert Series - June-August, 2021

The summer is here and Suffolk Parks and Recreation is ready to kick it off with the TGIF Summer Concert Series of 2021!

The parks will open on Fridays at 6:00 pm and the bands will take the stage at 6:30. The music will have you jamming in your seat till 9:30 pm.  The night will be full of family fun with food vendors, adult beverages and merchant vendors to shop with.  All Fridays are free and open to the public.

Stars and Stripes Spectacular - July 4, 2021

Enjoy the Stars and Stripes Spectacular on July 4th as the skies of Suffolk light up with a fireworks show over the beautiful Nansemond River at Constant’s Wharf Park and Marina. The park will open at 5:30 p.m. with entertainment, children’s activities, merchandise vendors and a variety of food choices. A large area with bounce houses and games will be available for children 12 and under for a $5.00 entry fee. A LIVE band will take the stage at 6:00 p.m. with a repertoire of songs in a variety of styles. An evening with this band could range in a musical variety from soft dinner music to Motown, Beach Music, Disco and all of your favorite music. The fireworks show will begin at 9:00 p.m. for the entire family to enjoy.

There is no on-site parking for this event. Shuttle parking will begin at 5:15 p.m. from the following sites:

•    First Baptist Church located at 237 N Main Street

•    Suffolk Municipal Building parking lot located at 440 Market Street

•    Mills Godwin Courthouse Building located at 150 N Main St

The last shuttle run before the fireworks begin is at 8:20 pm. Shuttles will resume after the fireworks have concluded.

Taste of Suffolk - September 11, 2021

Want to find great food, fabulous entertainment, and plenty of children’s activities all within walking distance of each other? Take a bite out of the annual Taste of Suffolk street festival. It is usually held on the second Saturday in September from 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM. The event site will stretch down Main Street starting on Finney Avenue and cover Washington Street from Commerce to Saratoga Street. Main Street will be lined with restaurants from all over Suffolk presenting some of their specialty food items, merchandise vendors displaying a variety of goods and services, all day entertainment with live music and contests that are sure to get everyone on their feet.

This event will require road closures on Main Street and Washington Street in September. Parking in the downtown area will be effected on Friday, September 10 and Saturday, September 11.

Arrive early to get the best seat in the park!  A concessions areas will be available with food and treats. Pets are welcomed on a leash.  The movie will begin at approximately 7:15 PM. Registration is required. 


Home of the Brave 5K|10K - November, 2021

Join us for a race around Suffolk. This virtual 5K & 10K event is hosted by Road Rage. This is open to all ages. For more information or to register visit Suffolk5k.com


Grand Illumination - November, 2021

The Suffolk Holiday Season begins with a hometown kickoff. The Grand Illumination Ceremony at Market Park in downtown Suffolk will ring in the holidays for families in our community with the park opening at 6 p.m.

Watch the 32 foot tree light up when the switch is flipped to illuminate Suffolk for the season. Be there as Santa arrives in style, enjoy seasonal music, take a tour of the Suffolk Seaboard Railroad Museum and purchase your own horse-drawn carriage ride. Youngsters will also be able to participate in various holiday themed craft activities in specially-heated tents. Be sure to bring along your camera to capture your children’s smiling faces as they whisper their Christmas wishes to Santa Claus.


Festival of Lights at Sleepy Hole Park

Good things come in little packages!  Enjoy a sprinkle of holiday cheer at the inaugural Suffolk Festival of Lights at Sleepy Hole Park. This drive-through light display will be open beginning November 19th, through December 30th, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The display will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

View an exhibit of five holiday light themes from the warmth and comfort of your car at the quaint Festival of Lights drive-through display at Suffolk's Sleepy Hole Park, located at 4616 Sleepy Hole Road. Additional light theme displays will be added each year moving forward to further enhance the festive experience.
