To improve the health and overall quality of life for our participants utilizing the process of thoughtful and careful intervention so they may overcome barriers, learn, adapt, and grow in their chosen life pursuits.

What is Therapeutic Recreation


Therapeutic Recreation, also known as Recreational Therapy, is a treatment service designed to restore, remediate, and rehabilitate a person's level of functioning and independence in life activities. Recreation Therapy provides inclusive recreational opportunities and goal oriented treatment for individuals with disabilities and special needs to improve their health and overall quality of life through a process of thoughtful and careful intervention.

Suffolk Parks and Recreation is dedicated to serving individuals with disabilities and offering them the best opportunities to experience recreation while also providing them the best opportunities to experience recreation while also providing them with a healthy leisure lifestyle.  Recreational Therapy services provided within Suffolk Parks and Recreation recognizing play, leisure, and recreation as integral components of a person's well-being no matter their needs, illness, or disabilities.
