Deputy City Manager

Responsibilities


The Deputy City Manager directs, manages and oversees the day to day and long-range activities of the Development departments in order to meet the needs of the community in accordance with policies established by City Council. These departments include:
The Deputy City Manager also serves as a liaison between the City Manager's Office, employees, citizens, civic organizations, state and federal agencies and is responsible for coordinating and carrying out the City's development initiatives.

Kevin Hughes Biography


Interim City Manager Albert Moor, II, announced November 10, 2020, the appointment of Kevin Hughes as Acting Deputy City Manager effective November 12, 2020. Suffolk City Manager Albert Moor, II, appointed Hughes as Deputy City Manager effective August 22, 2021.

Experience


Hughes was named the Director of the Suffolk Department of Economic Development in February 2010. Hughes first joined the Suffolk team in 2005 as a Senior Business Development Manager and to date has assisted over 500 projects totaling over $1,000,000,000 in capital investment, and over 7,000 new jobs in the City of Suffolk. Hughes' responsibilities included the supervision of the Division of Tourism and the Suffolk Executive Airport; as well as serving as the Deputy Secretary Treasurer for the Suffolk Economic Development Authority.

Education


Hughes received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from James Madison University and has completed the Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma.
