City Offices' Thanksgiving Holiday Closing Schedule

In observance of Thanksgiving, City of Suffolk offices will close at 12 p.m., Wednesday, November 25, 2020, and remain closed Thursday, November 26th and Friday, November 27th. Normal operations will resume Monday, November 30, 2020, at 8:30 a.m.

Normal operations will resume Monday, November 30, 2020, at 8:30 a.m. Please note, however, that the majority of City of Suffolk facilities, as well as the Treasurer’s Office and the Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office inside City Hall and their satellite offices at the North Suffolk Library, remain closed to the public until further notice due to the impacts of COVID-19. The City observes all state-designated holidays. Thanksgiving is considered a holiday for the Commonwealth of Virginia, and all state offices are closed on these days.

Trash regularly scheduled for pickup on Thursday, November 26th will be collected on Friday, November 27th. Trash regularly scheduled for pickup on Friday, November 27th will be collected on Saturday, November 28th. TFC Recycling will also follow the holiday schedule with the Thursday, November 26th regular recycling routes being collected on Friday, November 27th, and the Friday, November 27th regular recycling routes being collected on Saturday, November 28th. Suffolk Public Works Department reminds you that trash must be placed at curbside no later than 7 a.m. on the day of collection. Businesses located in the Downtown Business Overlay District (DBOD) will have their collection day run on the regular schedule on Friday, November 27th. The Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA) Transfer Station in Suffolk will be closed Thursday, November 26th, and will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, November 27th. The Regional Landfill will be closed on Thursday, November 26th, and will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, November 27th.

Suffolk Transit will not be in operation on Thursday, November 26th due to the holiday. Suffolk Transit will run as scheduled on Wednesday, November 25th, Friday, November 27th, and Saturday, November 28th.

Suffolk Parks & Recreation Joint Use Recreation Centers (Kings Fork, Creekside, Northern Shores, Oakland, Booker T. Washington, Mack Benn, Jr.) will be closed Wednesday, November 25th, and will remain closed Thursday, November 26th and Friday, November 27th. The East Suffolk Recreation Center and the Whaleyville Recreation Center will close at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25th, and will remain closed Thursday, November 26th and Friday, November 27th. The East Suffolk Recreation Center and the Whaleyville Recreation Center will be open on Saturday, November 28th from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Suffolk Parks & Recreation Administration Office will close at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25th and will reopen on Monday, November 30th.

Suffolk’s four major parks (Lone Star Lakes, Constant’s Wharf, Sleepy Hole, Bennett's Creek) will remain open during the holiday. However, no park attendant will be on duty from 12 p.m., Wednesday, November 25th until Monday, November 30th.

All Suffolk City Libraries (Morgan Memorial, North Suffolk, Chuckatuck) close for curbside service at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25th, and will remain closed through November 29th. Morgan Memorial and North Suffolk will reopen for curbside service at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 30th.

The Suffolk Art Gallery will close at 12 p.m., Wednesday, November 25th, and will remain closed Thursday, November 27th through Monday, November 30th. The Suffolk Art Gallery will reopen on Tuesday, December 1st.

The Suffolk Tourism Visitor Center Information-To-Go table, located near the front entrance of the Visitor Center, will be closed Thursday, November 26th, through Sunday, November 29th, and will reopen on Monday, November 30th. Public access to the interior of the Visitor Center remains closed to the public. The Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad Museum remains closed to the public.

The Suffolk Executive Airport Terminal will be open but unmanned on Thursday, November 26th, and Friday, November 27th. The airfield and self-serve fuel island will remain open. The restaurant will be closed on Thursday, November 26th.
