[ARCHIVED] City Offices’ Lee-Jackson and Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Closing Schedule

In observance of the Lee-Jackson Day and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holidays, Suffolk City offices will be closed Friday, January 12th and Monday, January 15, 2018. Normal operations will resume Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at 8:30 a.m. The City observes all state-designated holidays. Lee-Jackson Day and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day are considered holidays for the Commonwealth of Virginia, and all state offices are closed on this day.


There will be no changes to the trash collection schedule for Friday, January 12th. TFC Recycling will also conduct their normal recycling collection routes on Friday, January 12th. The Suffolk Public Works Department reminds you that trash must be placed at curbside no later than 7 a.m. on the day of collection. For more information on refuse collection, please call Public Works at 514-7630.


The Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA) Transfer Station in Suffolk will be open Friday, January 12th from 7 a.m. until 12 p.m. or until the City of Suffolk finishes refuse collection, and 7 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Monday, January 15th.  The Regional Landfill will be open Friday, January 12th from 7 a.m. until 12 p.m. and will be closed on Monday, January 15th.


Suffolk Joint Use Recreation Centers (Mack Benn Jr., Booker T. Washington, Kings Fork, Creekside, Northern Shores, and Oakland) will close at 6 p.m. on Friday, January 12th following the closing of the afterschool programs. After 6 p.m., these centers will only be open for youth league athletic practices and games. On Monday, January 15th, these centers will only be open for youth league athletic practices and games.


The East Suffolk Recreation Center and Whaleyville Recreation Center will be closed Friday, January 12th and Monday, January 15th and will reopen Tuesday, January 16th for normal business hours. The Suffolk Parks & Recreation Administrative Office will be closed January 12th through January 15th and will reopen Tuesday, January 16th for normal business hours.

Suffolk’s four major parks – Lone Star Lakes, Constant’s Wharf, Sleepy Hole, and Bennett's Creek – will remain open Friday, January 12th and Monday, January 15th, however, no park attendant will be on duty.


The Suffolk Art Gallery is closed on January 12th and January 15th.


Suffolk Transit will operate on the normal schedule on Friday, January 12th and Monday, January 15th.


The Morgan Memorial Library, North Suffolk Library, and Chuckatuck Library will be closed Friday, January 12th through Monday, January 15th. Libraries will reopen on Tuesday, January 16th at 10 a.m.


The Suffolk Tourism Visitor Center and Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad Museum will remain open during the extended holiday weekend.


The Suffolk Executive Airport terminal will be unmanned on January 12th and January 15th. The field and self-service fuel island will remain open during this time. Suffolk BBQ at the Airport will be open January 12th and January 15th.
