[ARCHIVED] UPDATE - UTILITY WORK TO CLOSE PORTION OF NORTH MAIN STREET AND DISRUPT WATER SERVICE

UPDATE (8-13-18)

SUFFOLK, VA (August 13, 2018) The rescheduled work by a contractor on behalf of the Department of Public Utilities which was to begin on Friday, August 17^th has now been rescheduled to begin on Friday, August 24^th (weather permitting). This will ensure that the work can be completed during a weekend period and that asphalt is available for restoration. Door hangers will be distributed notifying the impacted residents along North Main Street.

UPDATE (8-10-18)

Due to the increasing percentage for potential storms over this weekend, the Department of Public Utilities will be postponing the below work until Friday, August 17^th (weather permitting). This will ensure that the work can be completed during a weekend period and asphalt is available for restoration. Door hangers will be distributed notifying the impacted residents along North Main Street today.

A contractor working for the City of Suffolk Public Utilities Department will be replacing a service line from the City’s water main, which is located in the middle of the northbound lanes in the 200 block of North Main Street, this weekend. The work will require a traffic detour beginning at 7 p.m., Friday, August 10^th until the work is complete in the evening on Saturday, August 11^th. As a result, it will be necessary to detour the northbound North Main Street traffic around the work site for a portion of the weekend. The northbound traffic would detour at Bank Street to Pinner Street to Finney Avenue back to North Main Street. Southbound traffic on North Main Street will not be impacted. The work will also require the closure of the eastern sidewalk on North Main Street near the work site.

The project will require the interruption of water service along North Main Street from Market Street to the railroad tracks from 9 p.m., Friday August 10^th to 12 p.m., Saturday August 11^th. All impacted residents have been advised previously by delivered door hangers.
