[ARCHIVED] SMOKE TESTING OF SEWER LINES IN SUFFOLK SCHEDULED

Hydrostructures, a contractor working on behalf of the Suffolk Department of Public Utilities, will be smoke testing the sanitary sewer system over the next several weeks within certain areas of the City. During the week prior to the smoke testing, door hangers will be hand delivered to areas that are scheduled to be tested. These door hangers will describe the upcoming smoke testing efforts.

Smoke testing involves injecting opaque-colored smoke through the sanitary sewer pipes to locate and identify deficiencies that may contribute to sanitary sewer overflows. The smoke used for smoke testing is non-toxic, harmless, and creates no hazard.

During the week of September 10, 2018, smoke testing is scheduled to be conducted in several areas described as: (1) Riverside Estates, (2) Riverfront, (3) Olde Town, the area generally bound by Finney Avenue, Holladay Street, East Washington Street, and North Main Street, and (4) Barrett Acres.
