The good news overnight was that many citizens heeded our warnings and traffic was very light into the early morning hours.

Snowfall totals across the City vary, with some locations reporting little to no snow or a light dusting, and other areas, especially in the Holland and Whaleyville boroughs, receiving several inches.

Public Works crews took advantage of weather conditions beginning on Wednesday and continued throughout last evening applying brining pretreatment totaling approximately 12,600 gallons on our primary roadways and a large number of secondary roadways.  They have been working in 12-hour shifts and have put down more than 650 tons of abrasives overnight. 

Crews report that our primary roadways are for the most part clear, and that secondary roads have some slush or snow but are drivable. 

Favorable weather is forecast for today.  The combination of sun, wind, and temperatures above freezing will help further improve road conditions. 

Drivers should exercise caution in their driving by driving alert and attentive, keeping their speed down, allowing a safe distance from the vehicle in front of them and avoiding sudden directional changes. Drivers should also leave a safe distance from Public Works vehicles to avoid being hit from material being spread on the road.
