CITY OFFICES NEW YEAR’S HOLIDAY CLOSING SCHEDULE

 

In observance of the New Year’s holiday, Suffolk City offices will be closed Friday, January 1, 2021 and will reopen for normal operations on Monday, January 4, 2021 at 8:30 a.m. Please note, however, that the majority of City of Suffolk facilities, as well as the Treasurer’s Office and the Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office inside City Hall and their satellite offices at the North Suffolk Library, remain closed to the public until further notice due to the impacts of COVID-19. The City observes all State-designated holidays. New Year’s Day is considered a holiday for the Commonwealth of Virginia and all State offices are closed on this day.

 

Trash regularly scheduled for pickup on Friday, January 1, 2021 will be collected on Saturday, January 2, 2021. TFC Recycling will also follow the holiday schedule with the Friday, January 1, 2021 regular recycling routes being collected on Saturday, January 2, 2021. Suffolk Public Works Department reminds you that trash must be placed at curbside no later than 7 a.m. on the day of collection. Businesses located in the Downtown Business Overlay District (DBOD) will have their collection days run on Tuesday, December 29th and Saturday, January 2ndFor more information on refuse collection, please call Public Works at 514-7630.

 

From December 26, 2020 through January 7, 2021, the Suffolk Department of Public Works Refuse Division will collect all Christmas trees and boxes as a special collection. During this time, Christmas trees and boxes will not be counted towards the 12 free special collections. Any Christmas trees put out for collection after January 7, 2021 will be picked up but will count as a special collection. The trees and boxes will need to be placed at the curb the same day as the residence’s regular collection. The trees do not have to be secured and the boxes do not have to be collapsed.

 

The Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA) Transfer Station in Suffolk and the Regional Landfill will be closed on Friday, January 1, 2021. SPSA facilities will resume regular business hours on Saturday, January 2, 2021.

 

Suffolk Transit will not operate on Friday, January 1, 2021.

 

All Suffolk Joint Use Recreation Centers (Mack Benn Jr., Booker T. Washington, Kings Fork, Creekside, Northern Shores and Oakland) will be closed Monday, December 21, 2020 and remain closed until Monday, January 4, 2021.  The East Suffolk Recreation Center and Whaleyville Recreation Center will be closed Friday, January 1st.  The Suffolk Parks & Recreation Administration Office will be closed Friday, January 1st.  

 

Suffolk’s four major parks (Lone Star Lakes, Constant’s Wharf, Sleepy Hole, and Bennett’s Creek) will remain open Friday, January 1st.  However, no park attendant will be on duty.

 

The Suffolk Art Gallery will be closed Friday, January 1st through Tuesday, January 5th

 

All Suffolk City Libraries (Morgan Memorial, North Suffolk, Chuckatuck) will be closed Friday, January 1st through Sunday, January 3rd. Morgan Memorial and North Suffolk Libraries will reopen at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 4th for Self-Service Technology use only as well as contactless Curbside Service.

 

The Suffolk Tourism Visitor Center and the Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad Museum will be closed Friday, January 1st

 

The Suffolk Executive Airport terminal will be closed Friday, January 1st. The airfield and self-service fuel island will remain open during this time. The restaurant will be closed on Friday, January 1st
