COVID-19 - UPDATE - February 12, 2021
The City of Suffolk was made aware today, Friday, February 12, 2021, of a Media Release provided by the Virginia Department of Health (VDH).
The release noted the VDH decision for all local Health Districts to temporarily close their online vaccination pre-registration process effective this evening at 5:00 p.m. in preparation to shift to a statewide system next week on Tuesday, February 16, 2021.
VDH also noted that anyone who has previously filled out a survey or form or signed up for a waitlist to be vaccinated through their local Health District, will be automatically imported into the new statewide system, and that individuals will maintain their current status in the queue. They further advise that the statewide vaccine pre-registration system will provide a more unified and comprehensive process for people in Virginia to pre-register for the COVID-19 vaccine.
As a result of this decision from the State, the City of Suffolk Call Center that was recently established to provide assistance to citizens in the Western Tidewater Health District (WTHD) seeking information regarding the scheduling and availability of COVID-19 vaccinations will also be impacted. While the Call Center, available at 757.514.4570, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., will remain open while the proposed systems are implemented by the State, at this time it has not been determined if the City’s Call Center will still be able to provide assistance in completing the new pre-registration process once implemented.
The Virginia Department of Health also has advised citizens that for more information on COVID-19 in Virginia and the United States, and the Commonwealth’s ongoing efforts in the pandemic, visit www.vdh.virginia.gov/coronavirus and www.cdc.gov/coronavirus.
