My property is located within the Historic Conservation Overlay District, what do I need to do in order to make exterior changes or improvements?
All exterior changes in the historic district must obtain a Certificate of Appropriateness (link to document) prior to commencing any work. The application fee ranges from $35 to $250 (link to fee schedule).
First, you should consult with a comprehensive planner to discuss the proposed changes and whether they would be considered a minor action, which is reviewed administratively within approximately two weeks, or a major action, which is reviewed by the Historic Landmarks Commission and requires approximately 45 days. Staff can also advise you on the compatibility of the proposed changes with the Historic District Design Guidelines.
