City of Suffolk Awards

• Parade magazine in its May 22 edition recognized the Suffolk Peanut festival in their article, "Eat Your Way Across America, 50 states 50 fabulous food festivals" The Suffolk Peanut Festival was the only Virginia festival that made the list.

• City of Suffolk Fleet Management was named in the Top 100 Fleets by Government Fleet Magazine. While the exact ranking won't be known until June 8, we think being named in the Top 100 out of 36,000 Public Sector Fleets is impressive.

• City of Suffolk was recently presented with the Margaret A. Nichols Risk Management Leadership Award. Some of the factors that led to this award included the dramatic reductions in employee injuries, lost days at work and days on light duty. In addition, the number of worker's compensation claims has decreased significantly. They also lauded the safety audits that are conducted at city facilities and the city's creation of a safety officer position and safety committee as factors in the improved safety. This award also came with an $8,000 grant that will be reinvested in safety equipment and training that contribute to the City's risk management program.
