The City Attorney, as head of the Department of Law, is the chief legal advisor of the City Council, the City Manager, and all department directors, commissions, and agencies of the City in all matters affect the interest of the City. The City Attorney also currently serves as the chief legal counsel to the Suffolk Economic Development Authority. The Department of Law institutes and defends all legal proceedings which it deems necessary and proper to protect the interests of the City, and performs other functions as required by Council and requested by the City Manager.
