The
role of the Library is to assist the citizens of Suffolk
in fulfilling their recreational, informational, and cultural needs by:
promoting, encouraging and supporting a lifelong interest in reading, providing
sources of information in all fields of knowledge, and providing materials
which support the continuing educational needs, both formal and informal,
of its citizens. The Suffolk
Public Library System includes the main library, one branch library,
two library stations, and a full time book mobile. Between the various branches,
the City's Library System circulates approximately 250,000 volumes annually.
Suffolk's Library System is highly automated and allows patrons to dial
in from home computers to check records, place reservations, read encyclopedias,
and search for magazine articles.
