Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)

The Virginia Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), located in the Code of Virginia 52.2-3700 et
seq., guarantees citizens of the Commonwealth and representatives of the media access to
public records held by public bodies, public officials, and public employees.


The Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue maintains assessment records, including
Business, Professional and Occupational License (BPOL), tangible personal property, bank
franchise and local excise tax records.


You may request records by U,S. Mail, fax, email, in person or by telephone. To request records,
you may direct your request to our FOIA Officer, Susan Draper. You may also contact her with
questions you have concerning a request for records. She can be reached as follows:
