Purpose
Under State law, the Commonwealth of Virginia is divided into five health planning areas, each of which is served by a small regional health planning agency. The primary mission of each of those agencies is to review Certificate of Public Need requests for new services, facilities and equipment that are submitted to the state's Commissioner of Health. This agency advises the Commissioner as to whether he should approve or deny a particular application.
