BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS
PURPOSE: Official appeal board for matters that deal with conflicts or hardships that arise from the administration and enforcement of the Zoning Ordinance.

COMMUNITY CRIMINAL JUSTICE BOARD (FIFTH JUDICIAL DISTRICT)
PURPOSE: To assist the Fifth Judicial District in the development, establishment and maintenance of community-based corrections programs to provide the judicial system with sentencing alternatives for certain misdemeanants or persons convicted of non-violent felonies, on whom the court may impose a jail sentence and who may require less than institutional custody but more than probation supervision.

DISABILITY SERVICES BOARD (SOUTH HAMPTON ROADS)
PURPOSE: The South Hampton Roads Disability Services Board (DSB) is a consortium of localities comprised of the Cities of Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Norfolk and Suffolk. DSB's throughout the state provide additional services in three major areas: (1) the Rehabilitative Services Incentive Fund provides subgrants to agencies either expanding existing services or providing new ones for the disabled community; (2) DSB's are required to conduct a regional needs assessment to determine what the high priority needs are for the disabled in their community; and (3) the DSB acts as a clearinghouse for questions on the Americans with Disabilities Act.
