
Vice Mayor Charles F. Brown has been a member of the Suffolk City Council since 1994 and served as Vice Mayor from 1996-2000 and in 2011 resumed that role. Prior to serving on City Council, he was a member of the Suffolk Planning Commission and also served on the Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority Board of Commissioners. Currently, he serves on City Council’s Economic Development, Education, and Finance Committees as well as serving as the Economic Development Authority Liaison and serves as an alternate on the Hampton Roads Planning Transportation Organization.
Vice Mayor Brown holds a Bachelors Degree in Math and Physics from Fayetteville State University and a Masters Degree in Human Resources from George Washington University. He had also completed additional coursework at Harvard University and Old Dominion University. His background in mathematics and science enabled Vice Mayor Brown to devote his professional life to his personal passion, education - he is a retired instructor at Northrop Grumman Newport News.
Vice Mayor Brown is an active member of many professional and civic organizations and devotes much of his time to community activities, particularly relating to youth development.
