Mayor Linda T. Johnson was elected to Suffolk City Council in 2000. She represented the Sleepy Hole Borough for two terms and became Suffolk's first female mayor on July 5, 2006. Mayor Johnson made history once again when she became Suffolk's first directly elected mayor on January 5, 2009.

Mayor Johnson began her career in real estate in 1986. She is currently with Prudential Towne Realty. She has been a member of the Board of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors since 1986.

Mayor Johnson serves on the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission, the Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization, and as the Chair of the Hampton Roads Mayors and Chairs Caucus.

Mayor Johnson holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Journalism from Westhampton College at the University of Richmond, with a minor in Sociology. In addition to all of her professional endeavors, Mayor Johnson is active in several community service organizations.
