Lakita is currently the director of Suffolk Parks and Recreation. She is a graduate of Norfolk State University where she received her Bachelor’s in Social Work. Lakita is currently pursuing a Master’s in Public Administration from Liberty University. She has over 20 years of experience in the recreation field in program and staff development, capital project implementation, and strategic planning. Lakita is an active member of the Virginia Recreation and Parks Society and was President of the Board of Directors in 2010. She is also active in the National Recreation and Parks Association where she was selected as the 2015 Diversity Scholar and is the chair-elect for both the Leadership Development Network and the Ethnic Minority Society. Lakita serves as a guest lecturer at Old Dominion University for the Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Studies program. She has also presented at several state conferences and national conferences. Lakita is committed to the recreation profession and is passionate about mentoring young professionals interested in Parks and Recreation management. She is married to Michael Watson, a Pre-K teacher and together they have five children.
