Mayor Linda T. Johnson was elected to Suffolk City Council in 2000.
She represented the Sleepy Hole Borough for two terms and became
Suffolk's first female Mayor on July 5, 2006. Mayor Johnson made history
once again when she became Suffolk's first directly elected Mayor on
January 5, 2009. She was re-elected for a second term as Mayor in 2012,
and a third term in 2016.
Experience
Mayor Johnson began her career in real estate in 1986. She is
currently with Berkshire Hathaway Towne Realty and has been a member of
the Board of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors since
1986.
Committees
Mayor Johnson serves on the City Council's Finance Committee, the
City Council's Education Committee, the Hampton Roads Planning District
Commission, and is a past member of the Virginia Workforce Council. She
is also the Chair of the Hampton Roads Transportation Planning
Organization. She was appointed to Governor Terry McAuliffe's Council on
Local Government.
Education
Mayor Johnson holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Journalism from
Westhampton College at the University of Richmond, with a minor in
Sociology.
Community Involvement
In addition to all of her professional endeavors, Mayor Johnson is active in several community service organizations.
