4 - GIS Management Plan - The implementation of GIS is a major undertaking for a local government. The implementation of any technology is not only the purchase of computer hardware, software and data, but the retraining and retasking of city employees and resources. The GIS Management Plan was developed to help the City of Suffolk develop a "vision" to guide this shifting of resources and thinking to support the GIS.
The GIS Management Plan also identified the level of staff support that would be necessary to assure the success of the implementation. The Management Plan identified areas where city staff would require training, upgrades to computing equipment and additional or upgraded software. The Management Plan also identified any additional staff members required by the project that were not presently city employees.
