Summer 2016 Recreation Connection Program Guide
Since 1985, America has celebrated July as the nation’s official Park and Recreation Month. In 2009, the U.S. House of Representatives officially mandated July as “Park and Recreation Month.” Hundreds of park and recreation agencies will celebrate with their communities this July. This July we’re celebrating the super powers of parks and recreation and all the ways these local, community resources add value to our daily lives. We’re challenging everyone to discover their super powers at their local parks and recreation facilities whether it’s running a mile, building a new network of friends or finding your green thumb.

Suffolk Parks and Recreation is celebrating the month by hosting a selfie photo contest. From July 4-31, Suffolk Parks and Recreation will issue weekly challenges for people to get out in their parks and recreation facilities and discover their super powers. Weekly prizes will be awarded. The contest can be entered via Facebook or by uploading a photo to Twitter and Instagram using #SuperJuly and #SuperParkSelfie.
July 4-10: Selfie with nature!
July 11-17: Selfie doing something healthy!
July 18-24: Selfie with your friends and community!
July 25-31: Selfie showing your superhero side!
How to Enter:
Take a selfie in your local or park or recreation area—make sure it follows the weekly theme.
- Submit it via Facebook, or by uploading to Twitter or Instagram with #SuperParkSelfie and #SuperJuly.
- Share your selfie and encourage your friends, family and followers to vote for it.
- The selfie with the most votes that best demonstrates the theme will be dubbed the winner! Winners will be chosen 7/11, 7/18, 7/25 and 8/1.
Please note, Park and Recreation Month is a family-friendly activity. Please no distasteful or vulgar photos. Photos are subject to review before posting to the gallery. Users may enter more than one photo per week into the contest, however, each entry submitted must be substantially different than all subsequent entries. Users are allowed to vote for their favorite photo once per day. If a user is chosen as a winner, they are not eligible for future weekly prizes. Winners will be contacted via email or a direct message from Suffolk Parks and Recreation on Instagram or Twitter and must accept the prize within 24 hours.
