April 25

Howard Mast Tennis Day   
Howard Mast Tennis Court    l       9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Meet us at 201 Holly Lawn Parkway for a day of tennis tournaments, youth and teen tennis clinics, bounces houses, music, food, and games for all ages.  This event is free and open to the public. Pre- registration is required for the adult tennis tournament.  Register at the Parks and Recreation Administration Building or at the Howard Mast Tennis Complex.

Spring Canoe Tours

Lone Star Lakes Park    l    4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

See the park like you’ve never seen it before as you leisurely paddle the water that winds through habitats of several different species of birds, fish and other wildlife. No canoe experience required.  All necessary equipment will be provided.

The tours are designed for ages 6 and older. The cost is $5 per person and there is a three person maximum per boat. . Space is limited, so visit the Parks & Recreation website at register today. Registration ends May 4th.

Tour dates: May 30th, June 27th, July 25th, and August 22nd

May 2

March of Dimes Fishing Tournament
Lone Star Lakes Park    l    6:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Participants will meet at 6:15 a.m. at the Butler Tract boat ramp at Lone Star Lakes Park. From there, participants will have 11 lakes to choose from. Ages 10 and older are welcome to join but must be accompanied by an adult. A fishing license is required for those ages 16 and older and there is a three person maximum per boat. There are a few basic guidelines: largemouth bass only, 12 inch length minimum and 5 fish maximum.

Registration is $25.00. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the March of Dimes of South Hampton Roads. Register online today!

May 4

Tennis Lesson for Everyone

Howard Mast Tennis Complex    l    various times

Youth lessons are for children, ages 5 to 16, and classes are just $10 per monthly session. New sessions begin May 4th and will run until May 27th. There are Monday or Wednesday sessions at either 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., or 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Adult lessons are for ages 18 and up and classes are only $13 per monthly session. New sessions begin May 2nd and will run until May 30th  There are Tuesday or Thursday sessions at either 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Participants can register at the Howard Mast Tennis Complex, located at Lake Meade Park behind the Farm Fresh Supermarket at 201 Holly Lawn Parkway, or at the Parks & Recreations Administration Building, 134 South 6th Street.

May 9

1st Annual Outdoor Adventure Expo

Bennett’s Creek Park    l    9 a.m.- 2 p.m.

This family oriented event will include seminars, vendors and interactive activities such as fishing, skateboarding, and tennis. Come enjoy the bounce houses, field games, and a Zip Line.   The cost for the Zip Line will be $5 with proceeds going towards United Services Organization (USO) in honor of Military Appreciation Month.

This event is being held in conjunction with the Suffolk Partnership for a Healthy Community with their annual Suffolk on the Move 5K and 1 Mile Run. Although both events are free and open to the public, the 5K and 1 Mile Run requires pre-registration.
