Eggstravaganza

April 12, 2014 {Saturday}

Join Suffolk Parks & Recreation for our Annual Spring Eggstravaganza.  This event will have your kids hopping for joy at Bennett’s Creek Park on Saturday, April 12th, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. 
With the event geared towards children 10 and under, the park will be filled with entertainment, a petting zoo, pony rides, crafts, games, and more. Peter Cottontail will arrive to this egg-citing event at 11:15 a.m. and will be available all morning. Bring your camera to capture a day full of memories!
The Eggstravaganza is free and open to the public. Bennett’s Creek Park is located at 3000 Bennett’s Creek Park Road.

Military Family Appreciation Day

Bring the family out for Suffolk Parks and Recreation’s first annual Military Family Appreciation Day.  Open to all, this fun filled day in the park will be full of entertainment, games, crafts and more!  Help the City of Suffolk than the US Military servicemen and women, and their families who stand behind them.  Come out with the family to Bennetts Creek Park on Sunday, May 4th from 11 am – 2 pm to join in the fun.

Join your neighbors at the city parks for the TGIF Summer Music Concert Series in Suffolk.  Enjoy this free and family friendly event in the park as bands play a variety of hits and kids enjoy the children’s area.  Each week will feature a new band with music to get you out of your seat and enjoying your Friday night!

Stars and Stripes Spectacular

Enjoy the Stars and Stripes Spectacular as the skies of Suffolk light up with the firework show over the Nansemond River at Constants Wharf Park.  The park will open at 5:30 pm with entertainment, children’s activities, local merchandise vendors and food choices available.  The firework show will begin at 9:00 pm for the whole family to enjoy. 

Taste of Suffolk

Taste of Suffolk is back in Downtown Suffolk for the eighth year of this street festival tradition.  The event will span Main Street from Finney Avenue to Washington Street.  Walk along enjoying specialty food items from local restaurants all over Suffolk and see all the goods and services the merchandise vendors have to offer.  Taste of Suffolk has something for the whole family with our children’s area and live bands.  Come see all this great tradition has to offer on September 13, from 11:00 am – 5:00pm. Entry to the event is free and open to the public.
 
Legends of the Armory

October 24 & 25, 2014 {Friday and Saturday}
National Guard Armory/2761 Godwin Boulevard

$5.00 for Haunted House Entry
Be prepared for spooks and scares as you wind the maze at the haunted armory.  Come out on Friday and Saturday night, October 24 and 25 between 7:00 pm and 11:00 pm to enjoy the frights and sights at Legends of the Armory.  This event is geared for adults and children 12 years old and up.   Admission is $5.00 at the door.

Grand Illumination

November 21, 2014 {Friday}

The 2014 Holiday Season officially begins in Suffolk on Friday, November 21, with the city’s Grand Illumination Ceremony at Market Park in downtown Suffolk.  The event rings in the holidays starting at 6:30 p.m. with the park opening at 6:00 p.m.
Watch the 32 foot tree light up when the switch is flipped to illuminate Suffolk for the season. Be there as Santa arrives in style, enjoy seasonal music courtesy of local choirs, and purchase your own horse-drawn carriage ride. Children will delight in a special showing of holiday films and be able to participate in various holiday themed craft activities in specially-heated tents.  Be sure to bring along your camera to capture your children’s smiling faces as they whisper their Christmas wishes to Santa Claus.

Holiday Parade

The City of Suffolk is full of holiday cheer as the season’s festivities happen all around.  Be sure to join in the lights and sounds of the 2014 Suffolk Holiday Parade on Saturday, December 13th, at 7:00 p.m.  Find the best spot to watch the floats, equestrian units, marching bands and festive vehicles stroll down West Washington Street and take a turn up North Main Street with parade route ending on Prentis Street at the Grand Stands.
