Engineering

Public Works Engineering, operating as an enterprise fund, administers the City's Stormwater Utility Program utilizing the revenue generated from the stormwater utility fee. Revenue from the utility fund supports the E & S Program, Stormwater Management Program, citywide Mosquito Control, street sweeping, ditch cleaning and mapping initiatives.

The Engineering Division is comprised of civil engineers and construction inspectors who provide plan review and construction inspection services to ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws as they pertain to erosion and sediment control and stormwater management.  The Division also provides project management of capital and community development block funded projects, mapping (GIS) services and right of way acquisition.

Public Works Stormwater/Engineering Division provide plan review and inspection of capital and developer projects, project management, mapping, right of way acquisition and permitting services efficiently and effectively to ensure the protection of property and aquatic resources in conjunction with our federal, state and local partners by utilizing sound engineering practices which include the enforcement erosion and sediment control measures, illicit discharge detection and elimination, good housekeeping, public education and prudent financial accounting principles.

Mission Statement

Public Works Engineering consists of a team of professional staff, whose goal is to protect the quality of our aquatic resources and to prevent the degradation of property from soil erosion through the enforcement of federal, state and local laws and by providing supporting services that will prepare city officials and citizens with information to make well informed decisions while continuing to partner with civic leagues, public schools and the citizens of Suffolk in educational outreach.
