Welcome to the Board of Elections and Registration!

If held, the next election will be the Primary election on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General and House of Delegates.

  • Deadline to register to vote, or update an existing registration, for the June 13, 2017 Primaries is Monday, May 22, 2017.
  • Deadline to request an absentee ballot to be mailed to you is 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2017. Your request must be received by your Registrar by 5:00 p.m.
  • Deadline to request an absentee ballot by appearing in-person is Saturday, June 10, 2017.

The next General Election will be Tuesday, November 7, 2017 for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, House of Delegates, Commonwealth’s Attorney, Sheriff, Commissioner of Revenue and Treasurer.

  • Deadline to register to vote, or update an existing registration, for the November 7, 2017 election is Monday, October 16, 2017.
  • Deadline to request an absentee ballot to be mailed to you is 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 31, 2017. Your request must be received by your Registrar by 5:00 p.m.
  • Deadline to request an absentee ballot by appearing in-person is Saturday, November 4, 2017.

Do I need to show ID when I vote?

Photo ID: You will be asked to present an acceptable photo ID when you vote. Click here for a list of acceptable photo IDs.

If you don’t have an ID, simply go to your nearest voter registration office to get a free Voter Photo ID, even on Election Day! You will be required to complete a photo ID application, have your photo taken and to sign a digital signature pad.

Our Mission Statement

The mission of the Elections and Registration Department is to register citizens of Suffolk City to vote; to ensure that elections are impartial, fair, accurate, and accessible to all voters; to provide excellent customer service to voters, candidates, and the media; and to help the public understand and follow the laws, rules, and regulations.

The department enforces strict adherence to all current Federal, State, and Local laws, as well as to State Board of Elections rules concerning registering to vote and voting, and serves all citizens in election related matters.
