The Suffolk Police Department has a wide variety of career opportunities for anyone looking to enter the criminal justice field. From the Emergency Communications Operators that answer the 911 calls, to the officers that respond, and the Crime Scene Technicians that process the crime scenes, there is sure to be something for everyone. Here’s just a sampling of how you can make a difference in our community by joining the Suffolk Police Department team.
We believe our police officers are the best in Hampton Roads. They maintain a strong commitment to ethics, excellence and public service to our community. You might find them giving directions, directing traffic or taking a police report. Whatever task they are performing, it is our goal that they do so with the highest degree of professionalism. Our officers are highly diverse, well trained and have a strong desire to make a positive impact in the community in which they serve.
Crime Scene Technician
If you have seen the popular television shows like CSI, you will be well familiar with the role of our Crime Scene Technicians. Our civilian Crime Scene Technicians respond to major crimes, and are responsible for evidence collection, to include fingerprinting, crime scene photography and sketching. While they may not solve the case in thirty minutes, like they do on television, our staff is highly trained, dedicated and skilled at solving cases through evidence and scientific procedures.
Emergency Communications Operators and Call Takers
Our Emergency Communications Center is the hub of our public safety operations. The center is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by dedicated Emergency Communications Operators and Call Takers, who ensure that our police officers, firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians get to the scene fast. These employees are the critical link between our office and our citizens.
Animal Control Officers and Animal Caretakers
Do you have a passion for four footed, furry creatures? Then we have a great profession for you. Our Animal Control Officers are the first line of defense for helpless, mistreated animals . These are the employees who enforce the animal cruelty laws, shelter stray animals and adopt out our animals to loving, well deserving homes. It can be a heart breaking job, but the men and women who perform this critical function make a difference in the lives of stray and injured animals every day.
These are just a few of the many career opportunities we have at the Suffolk Police Department.
