APEX Awards For Publication Excellence Competition
The City of Suffolk Media and Community Relations Department was recently honored with a pair of awards in the 25th Annual APEX Awards for Publication Excellence competition.

Citizen Centric Report Honored
The City of Suffolk’s 2012 Citizen Centric Report has been awarded a Certificate of Excellence in Citizen-Centric Reporting by the Association of Government Accountants (AGA). Suffolk received the award in the first attempt at certification and is the only locality in the State of Virginia to receive this accomplishment.

Economic Director Chosen for National 40 Under 40
Kevin Hughes, the Director of the Suffolk Economic Development Department, has been selected as a National winner in the economic development profession's "40 Under 40" awards, the first-ever awards program recognizing young talent across the nation in the economic development profession.

Keep America Beautiful High Performance Achieved
Keep Suffolk Beautiful has been recognized as among the “Best of the Best” Nationwide and received Keep America Beautiful President’s Circle Award during Keep America Beautiful’s 60th anniversary National Conference, which recently took place in Washington, D.C. The President’s Circle Award recognizes exemplary performance made by certified affiliates of the national nonprofit in building and sustaining vibrant communities.

Marcom Award
The City of Suffolk Media and Community Relations Department has received a Gold Award in the 2013 MarCom Awards Competition for the “2013 Suffolk City Council Retreat Video”. The Gold Award is presented to those entries judged to exceed the high standards of the industry norm.

National Recognition in Going Away Party for Crime
The City of Suffolk finished in the Top 5 in the United States for their population category in the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) 29th Annual National Night Out crime, drug and gang prevention event. This marks the seventh straight year that Suffolk has brought home an award for their participation in this nationwide police-community partnership where over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U. S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world joined forces to take back their streets in a “going away party for crime” on August 7, 2012.
