Beginning January 1, 2014, if you are a Disabled Veteran, your Personal Property Tax may be reduced. This reduced rate is available to taxpayers qualified under provisions of Code of Virginia, Title 58.1.3506 (A)(19) and Suffolk City Code 82-202.
To qualify, the veteran must be certified by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to have one of the following service connected disabilities:
Has lost, or lost the use of, a leg, arm or hand
Or Is blind (as defined by Code of Virginia §46.2-100)
Or Is permanently and totally disabled
A veteran who is qualified must submit an application (PDF) with the required documentation to the office of the Commissioner of the Revenue.
