Selection Process
The Suffolk Police Department will hire only the most qualified candidates who successfully meet the following criteria:
Sworn Positions
Must be at least 20 and 1/2 years old at the time of application
Must be a United States citizen for the past 10 years
Must have an electronic application on file
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
Must not have any listed automatic disqualifiers
Must successfully pass a:
Background investigation
Chief's interview
Medical examination
Oral review panel
Physical ability test
Polygraph examination
Psychological examination
Written examination
Non Sworn Positions
Certain non-sworn positions must successfully pass a medical examination
Certain non-sworn positions must successfully pass a psychological examination
Dispatcher applicants: Typing test and criti-call test
Must be a United States citizen for the past 10 years
Must have an electronic application on file
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
Must not meet any listed automatic disqualifiers
Must successfully pass any tests required of the position
Must successfully pass a background investigation
Must successfully pass a chief's interview
Must successfully pass an oral review panel
