Patrol Operations Command

About the Division

The Operations Command includes three divisions led by two Captains; Precinct I, Precinct II, and Special Operations. These divisions compose the majority of sworn personnel on the Department. The Special Operations Division includes the:
  • Auxiliary Unit
  • K-9 Unit
  • Marine Patrol
  • Motor Carrier Unit
  • School Resource Officers
  • Search and Rescue
  • Traffic Unit
Additionally, Operations Command oversees the Department's Dive and Mobile Field Force Teams.

About Major Patterson

Major Patterson joined the Suffolk Police Department in 1994.  Throughout his career he has worked various areas of the department to include Uniform Patrol, Investigations, and Administration. Major Patterson earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Governmental Administration from Christopher Newport University and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Troy University. 

Major Patterson is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy 240th Session, the 29th Session of the Virginia Police Chiefs Foundation's Professional Executive Leadership School and the Senior Management Institute for Police.
