The Deputy City Manager directs, manages and oversees the day to day and long-range activities of the Development departments in order to meet the needs of the community in accordance with policies established by City Council. These departments include:
The Deputy City Manager also serves as a liaison between the City Manager's Office, employees, citizens, civic organizations, state and federal agencies and is responsible for coordinating and carrying out the City's development initiatives.
Scott Mills Biography
City Manager Patrick Roberts announced March 10, 2016, the appointment of Durrell "Scott" Mills as Deputy City Manager effective March 17, 2016. Mr. Mills served as the Interim Deputy City Manager since June 1, 2015.
Mills has been employed by the City of Suffolk since 1987 when he was first employed by the Department of Planning, and has held various positions within that Department including Environmental Planner, Principal Planner, Assistant Director and Director. He has also served on two previous occasions as Interim Deputy City Manager.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Urban and Regional Planning degree from East Carolina University, and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.
Scott and his wife Angela have two sons, Austin and Dixon.
