Committee Information
The Health and Human Relations Committee consists of a representative from the City Manager's Office, the City Attorney's Office, the Western Tidewater Health Department, the Department of Social Services, the Western Tidewater Community Services Board, the Welfare Advisory Board, the Substance Abuse and Youth Council, the Library Board, and the Department of Parks and Recreation.
A Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson are chosen by the Mayor from the membership of City Council.
The position of Secretary is held by the member from the Department of
Social Services, whose duties include, but are not limited to:
establishing the agenda, providing public notice of the meetings, and
recording the minutes of every meeting.
Committee Responsibilities
The Health and Human Relations Committee is responsible for the general review of all health and human relations matters of the City, and its specific duties shall include, but not be limited to: monitoring and recommending to City Council an official policy in the area of Social Services, Public Health, Mental Health Services, Substance Abuse Services, Recreation and the maintenance of the City Library System.
