The Economic Development Committee consists of a representative from the City Manager's Office, the City Attorney's Office, the Department of Economic Development, the Suffolk Workforce Development Center, and the Economic Development Authority.
A Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson are chosen by the Mayor from the membership of City Council.
The position of Secretary is held by the member from the Department of Economic Development, whose duties include, but are not limited to: establishing the agenda, providing public notice of the meetings, and recording the minutes of every meeting.

The Economic Development Committee is responsible for the general review of all economic development affairs of the City, and its specific duties shall include, but not be limited to: monitoring and recommending to City Council official policies on business development and the implementation of such policies to encourage strong economic growth and sustainability.
