SUFFOLK POLICE DEPARTMENT TO HOLD RESCHEDULED LAW ENFORCEMENT MEMORIAL SERVICE
Wednesday, October 13, 2021
Please join the Suffolk Police Department for a rescheduled Law Enforcement Memorial Service on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at City Hall, Council Chamber, 442 West Washington Street.
Though typically held on May 15th each year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, this service was cancelled in 2020, and postponed earlier this spring. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. In previous years, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world would converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events which honored those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
The event is open to the public. We welcome you to take time to honor the men and women, both locally and nationwide, who have sacrificed their lives in the preservation of peace and order.
