Process will address growth and change, focus on connecting the community
The City of Suffolk has launched an important process to update its comprehensive plan and community members are invited to participate. The plan is a long-range guide for land use, housing, transportation, parks and open space, public safety, schools, economic development and more. Since the last plan update seven years ago, the City has seen significant new development and change, making this an ideal moment to undertake this effort. The City’s Planning & Community Development Department is working with an appointed steering committee representing a range of interests, backgrounds and neighborhoods to help guide the process.
The process kicked off on March 22, 2022 with the first steering committee meeting. In mid-May 2022, a series of topical focus groups will be convened to bring stakeholders together to begin a discussion about critical issues and opportunities possibly affecting the City over the next twenty years. The public will also have the opportunity to share preliminary ideas through online activities that will be launched on May 16, 2022 on the project website at www.Suffolk2045.org. Additional in-person activities are planned for the summer and early fall and will be promoted on the website.
“Everyone who cares about the future of Suffolk is invited to share their vision. We’re hoping that the process helps us think about what we have in common and connects people across the City,” said Steering Committee Vice-Chair and Planning Commission Member, Anita Hicks.
The planning process will be completed by early summer 2023. More information can be found at www.Suffolk2045.org or by contacting Alexis Baker at the City’s Planning & Community Development Department at 757-514-4068 or email@example.com.
