[ARCHIVED] City Offices' Thanksgiving Holiday Closing Schedule

In observance of Thanksgiving, City of Suffolk offices will close at 12 p.m., Wednesday, November 22, 2017 and remain closed Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24.  Normal operations will resume Monday, November 27, 2017, at 8:30 a.m. The City observes all state-designated holidays. Thanksgiving is considered a holiday for the Commonwealth of Virginia, and all state offices are closed on these days.


Trash scheduled for pickup on Thursday, November 23, will be collected on Friday, November 24. Trash scheduled for pickup on Friday, November 24, will be collected on Saturday, November 25. TFC Recycling will also follow the holiday schedule with the Thursday, November 23 recycling routes being collected on Friday, November 24 and the Friday, November 24 recycling routes being collected on Saturday, November 25. Suffolk Public Works Department reminds you that trash must be placed at curbside no later than 7 a.m. on the day of collection. Businesses located in the Downtown Business Overlay District (DBOD) will have their collection day run on the regular schedule on Friday. The Southeastern Public Safety Authority (SPSA) Transfer Station in Suffolk will be closed Thursday, November 23 and will be open from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, November 24 and 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 25. The Regional Landfill is closed on Thursday, November 23, and will be open from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, November 24 and closed on Saturday, November 25.


Suffolk Transit will not be in operation on Thursday, November 23 due to the holiday. Suffolk Transit will run as scheduled on Wednesday, November 22 and Friday, November 24.


Suffolk Parks & Recreation Joint Use Recreation Facilities (Kings Fork, Creekside, Northern Shores, Oakland, Booker T. Washington, Mack Benn, Jr.) will close at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22 and remain closed Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24. The East Suffolk Recreation Center and the Whaleyville Community Center will close at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22 and remain closed Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24. The East Suffolk Recreation Center and the Whaleyville Community Center will be open on Saturday, November 25 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Suffolk Parks & Recreation Administration Office will close at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22 and will reopen on Monday, November 27.


Suffolk’s four major parks (Lone Star Lakes, Constant’s Wharf, Sleepy Hole, Bennett's Creek) will remain open during the holiday. However, no park attendant will be on duty Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24. Parks will be staffed on Saturday, November 25.


All Suffolk City Libraries (Morgan Memorial, North Suffolk, Chuckatuck) close at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22 and remain closed November 23 through November 25. All Library Branches reopen at their regular operating hours on Monday, November 27.

 

The Suffolk Art Gallery will close at 12 p.m., Wednesday, November 22, and will remain closed Thursday, November 23 through Monday, November 27. The Suffolk Art Gallery will reopen on Tuesday, November 28.


The Suffolk Tourism Visitor Center will be closed Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24 for the Thanksgiving Holiday. The Visitor Center will reopen at 9 a.m. on Saturday, November 25.


The Suffolk Executive Airport Terminal will remain open but will be unmanned from 12 p.m., Wednesday, November 22 until 8 a.m., Saturday, November 25. The on-site restaurant will close on Thanksgiving Day and operate on regular business hours for the remainder of the week.
