What’s the difference between a FOIA request and a request for information?
The Virginia Freedom of Information Act specifically applies to public records that currently exist. A public record is a writing or recording that is owned, prepared by, or in the possession of a public body or its employees or agent in the transaction of public working. Requests for public records, FOIA requests, should be directed to the
FOIA Office.

Can a citizen make a FOIA request confidentially?
The Virginia Freedom of Information Act is designed for residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the media that serve the citizens of Virginia. The name and address of the person making a request is necessary in determining residency.

How can I see what is airing on the Municipal Channel?
The weekly programming schedule for Suffolk’s Municipal Channel 190 can be found on the City’s website or in the Suffolk Sun and Suffolk News Herald newspapers. View

Can I get a copy of something I saw on the Suffolk Municipal Channel?
There is no charge for a copy of something you saw on the Suffolk Municipal Channel if you provide a blank DVD-R format disc. If the City needs to supply the disc, the charge is $5.

I don’t have Charter Cable and want to see the Suffolk Municipal Channel. How can I do that?
The Suffolk Municipal Channel is available to Charter Cable subscribers on Channel 190. However, you can also view live streaming video from the channel on the web. You can view the live stream of the channel as well as archived content from City Council Meetings, Planning Commission Meetings, and special events that have been produced by the Suffolk Municipal Channel.
