About Interim Chief Alfred S. Chandler

Interim Chief Al Chandler joined the Suffolk Police Department in April of 1999. Interim Chief Chandler has held various positions within the department to include field training officer, crime scene technician, detective and SWAT team member. As a sergeant, he served as supervisor in Uniform Patrol and in the Criminal Investigations Division as the Property Crimes Detective Supervisor, and the Violent Crimes Detective Supervisor.

As a Lieutenant, Chandler served the department as the commander of the Special Operations Unit where he managed a number of units such as the Fatal Crash Reconstruction Team, Hostage Negotiations Team, Marine Patrol, School Resource Officer Unit, and Search and Rescue Team. During his career, Interim Chief Chandler has attended many schools and received numerous certifications. Interim Chief Chandler is a 2006 graduate of the West Point Leadership Course and a 2014 Graduate of Saint Leo University's Master of Science in Criminal Justice program. Interim Chief Chandler graduated from the 270th Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA.
